Coweta County schools start Friday, August 7; Orientation Thursday, August 6 and 2009 Open House nights
 

Coweta County students go back to school for the 2009-10 school year on Friday, August 7.

Coweta County Schools officially welcome teachers back for the 2009-10 school year on Wednesday, August 5, as two days of pre-school planning begins.

Schools will officially welcome parents and students on Thursday, August 6, when Coweta schools open for Orientation on the day before the start of the new school year.

Orientation Times on Thursday, August 6 are:
Middle Schools: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (all middle schools)
Elementary Schools: 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. (all elementary schools).
High Schools: 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (all high schools)


Teachers will not be available for formal conferences during Orientation, but representatives but from the school transportation department will be available at all schools for information about bus schedules, and representatives from the school system’s after-school program will be available to register students (after-school registration is also available at schools on Wednesday, August 5).
 
Several Coweta County schools are holding additional early events for parents along with Orientation Day.

On Wednesday, August 5, Brooks Elementary School – Coweta County’s newest school – will hold a “Meet the Teachers” open house from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A 7:00 p.m. ice cream social will be held afterward, to let parents and staff at the new school to get to know one another.

Brooks was open the week prior for PTO led tours of the school. “We had over 300 families – nearly two-thirds of all our families – tour the school,” said Principal Julie Raschen. The school is also getting ready for a Sunday, August 16 ceremony (at 2:00 p.m.) to formally dedicate the school and honor its namesake - former Coweta County Superintendent Richard Brooks.

Elm Street Elementary School will also hold its traditional “Back to School Night” at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5.

Also on Wednesday, August 5th, Smokey Road Middle School has invited parents and supporters to attend a 7:45 a.m. “Accomplishments Celebration Breakfast” in the school cafeteria. The school’s AYP success and other academic achievements, community service activities, athletics and student activities will be highlighted at the breakfast in anticipation of the new academic year.

On Thursday, August 6, White Oak Elementary School will hold a 10:00 a.m. Kindergarten Orientation at the school.

Also on Thursday, August 6 – after the afternoon elementary Orientation times – Atkinson and Glanton Elementary Schools are holding early open houses for their parents that evening. Glanton’s school-wide cookout will start at 5:45 p.m., and Atkinson’s Open House will start at 6:00 p.m.

All Coweta County Schools hold formal Open House events at some point at the beginning of the new school year. Open House dates for the new 2009-10 school year are:
