Offering a preview of his upcoming
appearance on American Idol, Newnan High School student Alan
Jackson will perform for local audiences this Saturday at the
Centre for Performing and Visual Arts in Newnan.
Jackson and his band will headline the January Jam at the
Centre, this Saturday, January 17, at 6:00 p.m.
The January Jam at the Centre features local bands such as The
NTG and Take the Oath. It is free and open to the public and
doors open at 5:30 p.m.
Saturday’s Jam will be part of a weekend full of performances at
the Lower Fayetteville Road Centre for Performing and Visual
Arts.
On Friday, January 16 “The Belle of Amherst” – a Tony-Award
winning, one-woman play about the life of Emily Dickenson – will
be performed at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $8 and are on sale at the
Centre box office and at Scott’s Bookstore in downtown Newnan
and Morgan Jewelers at Ashley Park. Coweta County students and
employees can attend the performance free of charge.
And on Sunday, January 18, the United States Air Force Reserve
Concert Band will perform at 2:30pm. Admission is free for the
Sunday afternoon concert.
On Saturday, "The Alan Jackson Band" will appear with other
local bands at the family-friendly Jam. Among other selections,
Newnan High student Jackson will perform “Somebody like You” by
Keith Urban.
Jackson performed the number during his nationwide appearance on
American Idol, which he taped last fall. His appearance on the
Fox show will air this season.
Jackson, a senior at Newnan High School, said that he would like
to “give a big thank you” to Centre Director Don Nixon, and
Coweta County for all of the support he has received, before and
after his American Idol experience.
“It really means a lot to me…its great to know that there are
people out there who support you” said Jackson, who has high
hopes for the family friendly event coming up.
Obviously there are only certain things Jackson can say about
American Idol at this time. He did however shed some light about
the music industry, mentioning that it is a game of patience.
“When you sign that contract, you basically sign your life over”
said Jackson. It can be a tough industry to cope with, however
Jackson believes that it is one the greatest experiences for
those who wish to pursue a career in the music industry.
Going from Newnan to American Idol and then back to Newnan again
was different for Jackson. One of the main things he picked up
through this experience is that “one should never settle for
less.”
“To me you always need to be your hardest critic, you have to
set goals to succeed. If you never try to exceed your goals,
then you’ll never know how good you can be” said Jackson.
Also, the Newnan native and soon to be graduating senior firmly
believes that school is important. “How would a role model look
without an education” said Jackson.
